Howard
County was created on April 17, 1873 from parts of Hempstead, Pike, Polk and
Sevier Counties. The first county seat
was
Centre Point. After the completion of a railroad to Nashville in 1885,
the city grew rapidly. In 1905, after a bitter election, the
county
government was moved to Nashville.
