Text
of sign:
Grizzly Territory
You
are standing at the edge of prime grizzly bear habitat. All the
ingredients are here. A network of shallow, meandering streams
offer
relatively easy fishing. The overlapping lake, river, and forest
eco-systems support a rich variety of animals and plants.
Omnivorous
grizzlies depend on the diversity.
Even
this broad, delta-like expanse is not enough territory to support a mother
bear with cubs. Pelican Creek winds for miles
through
a vast wilderness to the north. Because Pelican Valley is home to herds
of elk and bison, grizzlies can find abundant
carrion
- desperately needed protein after a long hibernation.
Though
grizzly bears are far-ranging, and can appear elsewhere in the park, they are
more likely to frequent stream valleys like
Pelican
Creek. Look for similar habitat in Hayden Valley and Antelope Creek
drainage.
